CORONA …. A PROACTIVE ATTITUDE

“Corona” I would like to attribute feminine qualities and address as “she”. My female friends would be outrageous reading this but hold on……. once you finish till the end you too would be in compliance……..
She came as an uninvited guest. Yes, we had no choice but to open our doors. She made her presence felt all over the globe. I thought I was safe. But that was my misconception. She knocked at my door too…. She was an advocate of equality.
Teacher by choice, I too was stupefied, confined to the comforts of my house. What awaited the teaching fraternity was in fact stranger than fiction. I was reminded of Shakespeare and Hamlet.
‘’To be or not to be ……
that is the question.
Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?’’
Hamlet
These Shakespearian lines cannot fit in any other context better than at this juncture.

We teachers were pushed to a new forefront. I felt like I was dumped on a ramp to walk with a huge audience in front with no previous experience. But we took arms, shouldered it, not denying the tripping and falling.
Four months passed and when I look at myself, I feel quite empowered. The terrain of software unravelled before me. Like a student eagerly learning lessons, I too equipped myself and stretched my limitations. Despite the initial rough weather of anxiety, apprehension and angst, I realized that I too have mastered the online platform with dignity and pride.
Nothing can be a substitute for the real. Still she “Corona” brought along herself a huge reformation. To list a few:
- I realized firstly that household chores are not just my realm only. It became the collective responsibility of every member in the family.
- I can be happy without Swiggy and Zomato as I received compliments for my culinary skills.
- There is a lot more happiness in spending quality time with family than visiting malls at an exorbitant rate.
- I could bring home the value of dignity of labour an instil it into the young minds as I distributed the work of cleaning, dusting and washing to my kids.
- I felt happier binge watching which was a luxury for me earlier.
- Oh! How can I forget that maids no longer are an integral part of any household?
Now to conclude, my pretty female colleagues, don’t you agree that we are indeed powerful. Who else can revive the mentality of people like we do?
Even this musing of mine, penning my thoughts, revisiting my old books and many more to the list ……
I am always indebted to you “Corona “ for had it not been for your presence the Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex Meeting, Google Meet and the various presentations would have remained an alien in my life.
Every experience in our life leaves behind an untold story for future. I like to narrate a positive one…….
